Six refugee
children were found dead on Tuesday in Cesme on the Turkish coast as
the boat they were sailing in sank while travelling to the Greek
island of Chios.
The dinghy
had wooden reinforcements that apparently came apart because of bad
weather, according to Turkey‘s Anadolu news agency. The wreck took
place not very far off Cesme on Tuesday night.
The Turkish
coast guard rescued five people in life jackets while two more are
missing. One of the people rescued was a 12-year-old boy. Six bodies
of children were pulled out of the water, one of them being an infant
of unknown age.
All rubber
boat passengers were Afghan nationals and they were trying to reach
Chios.
