‘Same big pharma that hooked people on opioids now profits again from addicts' switch to heroin’

The same pharma companies that profited from the opioid epidemic in the US by hooking patients on their drugs are profiting again as their victims migrate to heroin and participate in needle exchange programs, an attorney told RT. The opioid epidemic is one of the biggest stories of 2017. The number of people dying from big pharma’s prescription narcotics has skyrocketed. But the same pharmaceutical companies that profited from creating the crisis in the first place, and received a slap on the wrist for it, are now profiting from it again, attorney Peter Mougey said in an interview with RT America’s Mike Papantonio. “ The migration from the prescription opioids to heroin is integral to this whole problem. At the end of the day, you are 80 times more likely if you are on heroin to have abused prescription opioids. It’s common sense. No one starts by wrapping a tourniquet around his arm and putting a needle into it, ” he said. “ But something I find even mo

US seeks to replace independent governments with puppet ones

An analyst believes the United States has always been at war with sovereign independent nations in an attempt to replace them with pro-Western puppet regimes, adding that Washington’s agenda is “belligerence against other countries”. The analyst’s comments came after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un issued a stern warning to the US, saying that the "nuclear launch button" is on his desk if the country’s security is threatened. “ Throughout its entire history, North Korea has never attacked another country, it does not threaten any now, but it is threatened by America - the possibility that America wages another war against the country … America is a great threat which is the reason North Korea has and continues to develop its nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. It does not want to use them, it wants to have them as deterrents to keep America from attacking the country. That is the only reason it has these programs, ” Stephan Lendman, writer and

US, UK do not want democracy in other nations

The United States and Britain have traditionally supported repressive regimes and terrorist organizations throughout the world, while seeking to overthrow independent and democratic nations, says an academic and political analyst in London. Critics say Washington seems to follow a double-standard approach when it comes to recent protests in Iran. “ Democracy is the one thing that the US and the UK do not want and that is exemplified by their continued support for all the cruel autocracies of the Middle East, ” said professor Rodney Shakespeare. “ You’re looking not just at double-standards; you’re looking at a deliberate policy to support cruel, torturing autocracies; the USA helped to bring in ISIL, the Takfiri, the head choppers and the throat slitters, ” Shakespeare told Press TV on Monday. Iran arrests several agents behind riots

Iran's Intelligence Ministry says it has identified and arrested some of the agents behind riots, which followed the recent protests against economic conditions in a number of Iranian cities in recent days. In a statement on Monday, the ministry said Iranian security forces helped by people had managed to detain some of the elements who incited unrest in several cities across the country. It added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other agents as soon as possible. Sporadic violence has erupted during the protests, causing a number

2017 marked the official death of the 'American Dream'

The 'hard-working' entrepreneur: another liberal myth collapses in America globinfo freexchange The myth of the young, incompatible and risky businessman who finds success thanks to hard work and (perhaps) a kind of genetic predisposition on risk-taking has collapsed officially at the end of 2017. If you are born poor you will probably die poor. And if you are born rich you will do whatever you want.   Philip Alston experienced some horrible pictures from his trip to the US. He saw people with rotten teeth who could not visit a dentist. He saw homeless and citizens dying from curable diseases or just from ... environmental pollution. As a UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, he had the duty to record that at least one in eight inhabitants of the world's richest country lives below the poverty line and presented some examples that would make his report a bit more "attractive" to the international media.
